Tree of Life Fundraiser Update

Monday, November 11, 2013

Our first fundraiser is still open!

We are getting closer to being matched!
We are presenting to situations and could get a YES any day now...
Please pray with us as we wait anxiously for a YES!

With a match, we will be required to pay the majority of our fees.
We are still short several thousand dollars and pray you will consider supporting us financially.
I've added a new support thermometer in the right column where you can watch us reach our final goal!

Here's a recap:

I got to thinking... what if we did a Tree of Life for our little one?  We could have folks donate $25 per leaf and then we will write their name on the leaf.  The tree will hang in his/her room and be a constant reminder of the people who helped play a part in giving him/her a new life and a family.

see the original post here: Tree of Life Fundraiser

We have sold 62 leaves so far!  There are 138 leaves left!

Help fill in the tree by making a $25 donation or more here:

Lovin BlogLovin

i think i'm a little late to the party
but, better late than never right?
and I figured if i was late, then maybe someone else is too

it's called Bloglovin
and it's my organization freak/type A self's dream

i love reading blogs
i follow several adoption/christian/family/diy blogs
every week, I go through my favorites tab and check to see if any of the blogs i follow have been updated

well, Bloglovin lets you add all of your favorite blogs to one site
then it organizes a "feed" of the newest blog posts
the feed shows the new post title and the first couple lines of the post
you can search for blogs by category, like posts, add friends and see their activity

i'm kind of in love
now everything is organized in one place
and I don't have to keep stalking blogs to see if a new post is written

if you don't have an account, go get one
and don't forget to Follow my blog with Bloglovin

When a Good Thing Becomes a God Thing

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

“The human heart is an idol factory that takes good things like a successful career, love, material possessions, even family, and turns them into ultimate things. Our hearts deify them as the center of our lives, because, we think, they can give us significance and security, safety and fulfillment, if we attain them.”
Timothy J. Keller in Counterfeit Gods

I have a love/hate relationship with Keller’s quote.  I love it because it is so very true, but on the other hand I hate it because it is so very true of my own heart.

As Mark Driscoll puts it, an idol is a good thing
that ends up becoming a God thing.

Y’all I would be lying a big fat lie if I don’t confess that along this adoption process it has been so hard not to make adoption an idol.

Adoption is a good thing, a thing that God loves
but, it can so easily become an idol.

Between endless hours of paperwork,
months of home study visits,
fundraising,
saving every penny,
and waiting,
and waiting some more,
and waiting even more,
I am often consumed by the process,
longing to have our little one forever in our arms.

It’s a daily struggle
one that I am continually bringing before the Lord.

So weary friends, I want to encourage you
whether you are waiting for a baby
or longing to be married,
or whatever that idol is,
lay it at the Father’s feet,
because He is the only one that can truly satisfy the deepest longings of your soul.
